Bear - Snaps an oak root

The tree’s roots had torn from the ground and were thrashing and grabbing at the bear like an octopus. It swung a massive limb to strike at the bear, but the creature blocked the blow, snapping the branch off at the trunk and sending it crashing into a house. Then the bear clawed at the tree’s trunk, digging holes that revealed the tree’s hollow.

Ombric - Hedge

First, he cultivated an encircling hedge of bracken and vines to guard the heart of Santoff Claussen. The ground around the village, rich with stardust, proved to be a fertilizer like no other, so thick vines sprang up, spreading as Ombric directed. They twined and twisted into a nearly impenetrable hedge, a hundred feet high, barbed with thorns the length of spears.

In spite of the thorns, however, strangers more interested in rumors of treasure than in learning made their way to Santoff Claussen. Like most master wizards, Ombric could conjure up diamonds and gems of eye-popping splendor as he pleased. He used them in spells and elixirs. Once used, they lost their gleam and had no further value. Yet rumors of his untold wealth persisted. Indeed, there was treasure in Santoff Claussen! It was just not the sort the treasure seekers coveted.

The shooting stopped, and the security door drooped slightly on its hinges. Butler ripped the door open smartly, yanking Billy Kong inside, then jammed the door closed again.
'Hello, Billy,' he said, pinning the smaller man to the wall.
Kong was too demented to be scared. He lashed out with a series of blows, any one of which would have been fatal to a normal person. They bounced off Butler like a fly bouncing off a Tiger Tank. That's not to say they didn't hurt. Kong's trained hands felt like heated brands where they impacted. Butler's only reaction to the pain was a slight tightening around the corners of his mouth.

Whatever the freak was talking about, he was motioning toward me! A dull sound rang in my ears. I knew what would happen next. Light seemed to gather around the winged man’s hand. It was bad enough having to put up with this fantasy stuff in my dreams, but out here in the waking world, too?!

The light bulged and stretched into the form of a spear, just like I knew it would. This was what had happened in the dream, and that definitely hadn’t ended well! This man was going to kill me! Before I could even finish thinking, the spear had pierced my stomach, and a strange sensation was welling up inside me.

Cough!
