Once again I half-heatedly replied, “Yeah.”
“All the falsified families were residents in the west tower. What is going on with...”
In the middle of the sentence Touko-san frowned. She made a displeased expression as if there was
a line of ants crawling over her body, then mumbled, “A trespasser.” Having grabbed a ring made of
grass out from inside her desk, she tossed it toward me.
“Take that and stand by the window. Don’t put it on your finger. A guest will be coming soon, so
thoroughly ignore him. Don’t even make a sound. If you do that the guest will leave without
noticing you.”
Touko-san spoke with a very displeased expression. An acute tension under-laid her words, saying
“don’t ask anything else,” so I decided to just do as she had said.
Holding tight to the haphazardly made grass ring, I stood next to the wall behind the sofa that Shiki
always used.
Then, I immediately heard someone’s footsteps.
