“I told Alba this, but you don’t understand horror either. Do you know the three conditions to terrify
someone? One, the monster can’t speak. Two, the monster has to be unidentifiable. Three, it’s
meaningless if the monster can die.”
“––!”
Araya spun around.
The black cat he had crushed just moments before was now perched on the ceiling, as if nothing had
happened.
“Shuku!”
The man tightly clenched his palm directed toward the ceiling.
Thud, the space was suddenly compressed.
Shaking within that distortion, the black cat leaped down toward the Magus, opening its mouth with
a snap. Before the black Magus could evade he was nearly swallowed whole.
“Gah–” He let out a dull cry that sounded like it was in its death throes.
Squelch, a dull noise rang out.
It was different from the time with Shiki. Before the Magus could fight back, he had lost most of his
body.
Thud, only the Magus’s face and shoulders remained, falling to the ground. Even in death his face
was still full of anguish, as the piece of human flesh tumbled down the rest of the stairs.
After calmly observing the scene, Aozaki Touko briefly muttered.
“If you’re going to kill, do it in one shot. That’s how you pull off a surprise attack.”
